With the ongoing support and involvement of The Friends of The Eddy Society and our supporters, the Blue Mondays program has helped to substantiate the value of the Blues in Cantos’ programming and the viability of a National Music Centre.

The Friends have proven instrumental in providing information about & aiding access to well known Blues artists locally, nationally, and internationally. Guest hosts of the Blue Monday All Ages Jam have included artists who reside locally like: Bill Dowey, Gary Martin, Amos Garrett & Tim Williams, nationally recognized artist Shirley Jackson & international artists like singer/songwriter Gloria Jones of Motown fame, and Sam Lay, the founder of the famous “King Eddy Saturday Afternoon Jam.”

We continue to celebrate the legacy of The Eddy as the foundation of Blues in Calgary.  Our mission to communicate and promote awareness of Blues as an art form through performance and education will keep us moving forward! We have not wavered since our April 2006 meeting with city Heritage Planner Darryl Cariou, which was key to having the building designated as an “A-List Municipal Heritage” site. Without our efforts, the King Edward Hotel would have been long gone, we are proud of our accomplishments but eager to do more!
